Ever need to clear
your mind, find yourself, have some long deep thoughts, or just try to figure
out what you want in life? Try the 500 mile pilgrimage of the Camino de
Santiago. This is a story of that hike that will apparently hold you find
a number of things including religion, your personal intuition, and quite
possibly your soul. Sounds kind of hippie, and when you say 500 miles my
first thought is who the hell has the time or money to take that much time for
a damn hike?!?! This movie was turned on to me by Bruce Bro, who himself
has done a number of these treks throughout the years. I have to say it
was extremely inspiring and a great make you think type of movie. Great
scenery, and a bit of a euro travel guide. It was really a look into the
depths of a man who has lost his son and his ability to overcome his bitterness
by inadvertently surrounding himself with very different people who
have their own demons. One of the great parts of the movie is we get
to see Martin Sheen in his Crazy Mode, Pissy Mode, and Drunk Mode along with
his real life son Emilio Estevez. No action other than Sheen getting into
a scuttle with the fuzz, and no trail hippie fornication, but all in all a
really good movie. Makes me want to get back to Europe!
FYI: Martin Sheen really got drunk for
the bar scene in this movie just like he did in Apocalypse Now!
