Definitely a hidden gem in the Netflix category! As you may
know I am quite possibly the biggest Rocky movie fan of all time and I may have
found its equal. Here we have what would be in real life the coolest MMA
event ever. Its basically a select group of fighters who are selected to
participate in a winner take all "Sparta" where the purse is $5mil.
The twist, two brothers separated when they were kids growing up in an
abusive family both get selected. Tom Hardy is just awesome! He is
a former Marine with a lot of baggage and just a total bad ass in the cage.
His Brother a long shot, high school teacher is a surprise and then you
throw in the alcoholic father/trainer Nick Nolte. Great fight scenes that
are filled with twice as much action as an actual MMA fight, and good story
that is predictable but a good watch. I would suggest this movie to
anyone who likes the sport. Now I have to go work out, alot!
(FYI: Joel Edgerton tore his MCL in the cage during production, halting
fight scenes for six weeks. Tom Hardy suffered a broken toe, broken ribs, and a broken
finger.)
