Im always leery about a movie with Asylum in the title since the
word is so played out in wannabe horror movies, but I gave it a shot because I
am addicted to watching crap! I actually really liked this movie,
possibly because I expected nothing more than junk and a time waster.
Basically, a group of cooks who are have high aspirations of their band
going somewhere work at an asylum for the criminally insane as a day job.
A massive thunder storm hits and there is a blackout at the friendly
compound. As you can imagine things take a turn for the worse. I
liked the acting and the situation where it shows no matter how civil you are
to an inmate at this place, they will become "unpleasant" at anytime.
There are some pretty freaky scenes especially one (spoiler alert) where
one bites his own finger off! Allegedly 2 people fainted at the Canes
film fest while watching this movie. Check it out, you may even want to
pick up a moonlighting shift at your local insane asylum.
(FYI: S. Craig Zahler wrote the script in 1995. It was turned down 11
times before picked up after almost 10 years)
